Ban Ki-moon Urges Israelis, Palestinians to Show Courage Needed to Make Peace

November 29, 2010 – Marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reminded the international community of its overwhelming consensus that the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory must end.

The UN News Centre reports that Mr. Ban challenged Israeli, Palestinian and international leaders to assume their responsibilities for peace.  He specifically called upon Israel to meet its obligations under international law and the Road Map to freeze settlement activity.  “It is both Israel’s interest and its duty,” Mr. Ban declared, “to begin rolling back the measures of occupation, particularly with respect to movement, access and security actions.”
